"Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software" is the first of its kind, defining how all other design patterns books should describe design patterns. I've worked through chapter 2 of Head First Design Patterns which walks you through the pro's, con's and Java implementation of the Observer pattern, but I did it in C#. This is the very first (and so far, only) Head-First book I have read, so am not sure if this is the standard format for this book series. Best of all, in a way that won't put you to sleep!
